Who runs a class
A class on this website is taught by a barbecue team, called the host. The host runs the class: the place, the food, the teaching and the safety. BBQOps runs the sign-up and takes your payment for the host, keeping a fee for doing that. BBQOps does not teach or run the class.
Booking a seat
- You book on the class page. You choose how many seats, and give your name, email address and phone number. If the class has a waiver, you have to tick the box to accept it.
- For a paid class, we send you to a secure payment page run by Stripe. We hold your seats for 30 minutes while you pay. If you have not paid by then, the seats go back to the class.
- Your booking is confirmed when your payment goes through, or at once if the class is free.
- After you book you get a private link to your booking page. Anyone who has the link can see and cancel your booking, so keep it to yourself.
- Each email address can have one booking for each class, with up to 10 seats in it (6 for a class you pay for).
- Every class shows the youngest age that may come. By booking, you say that you, and everyone you book seats for, are old enough.
Cancelling and refunds
Every class has one of three refund rules. The class page says which one it has.
- Flexible. Cancel 7 or more days before the first session for a full refund. Closer than that, no refund unless the host agrees.
- Moderate. Cancel 3 or more days before the first session for a full refund. Closer than that, no refund unless the host agrees.
- No refunds. No refund if you cancel, unless the host agrees. If the host cancels or moves the class, you are always refunded in full.
- The days are counted from the first session of the class.
- You cancel from your booking page. It tells you what you will get back before you cancel. Cancelling cancels the whole booking, every seat in it.
- A refund goes back to the card you paid with. How long it takes to show up is up to your bank.
- Even when the rule says no refund, the host can choose to refund you. Write to the host and ask.
If the host cancels or changes the class
- If the host cancels the class, you are refunded in full and we write to you.
- If the host changes the date, time or place, we write to you. If the change does not work for you, write to the host: they can cancel your booking and refund you.
The waiver
If a class has a waiver, you accept it by ticking the box when you book. This is what you accept:
- You are old enough for the class. Every class page shows the youngest age that may come.
- You know that barbecue cooking means fire, smoke, hot cookers and hot food, sharp knives and tools, and heavy things to lift, and that people can be hurt doing it. A class can also mean standing for a long time, being outside in the weather, and food you might be allergic to.
- You will follow the host’s safety instructions. If the host asks you to step back or to leave the cooking area, you will.
- You will tell the host before the class about any food allergy, health problem or limit that could matter. The notes box on the booking form is for that.
- You will not take part if you have had too much to drink or are under the influence of drugs.
- You take part at your own risk. As far as the law allows, you agree not to hold the host or BBQOps responsible for an injury, illness or loss that comes from the usual risks of a barbecue class. This does not take away any right the law says you cannot give up.
- If you book seats for other people, you will make sure they know these terms and agree to them.
How your details are used
- When you book we ask for your name, email address and phone number, and for any note you want to write. We use them to run your booking: to confirm it, to send reminders and news of changes, and so the host knows who is coming and can reach you.
- The host and BBQOps can see your name, email, phone, seats and note. The class page on this website never shows who is coming.
- Emails about your own booking (the confirmation, reminders, a change, a cancellation) are part of the booking, so they always come. A note from the host to the whole class, or a thank-you after the class, has a link to stop those.
- The box “Keep me posted about new classes” is not ticked unless you tick it. If you do, we may email you about new classes, and you can ask us to stop at any time.
- Your card details go to Stripe, on its own payment page. BBQOps never sees or keeps your card number.
- Your private booking link is shared with our payment company, Stripe, as part of the payment so you can come back to your booking after you pay.
- Our payment company, Stripe, also keeps the name and email you paid with, under its own rules.
- To stop abuse we keep a scrambled form of the network address you booked from for about a day, then it is erased.
- A team, or BBQOps, can remove your name, email, phone and notes from a class list after your booking is cancelled, or 30 days after the class is over.
- To have your name, email, phone and notes removed from a class list, ask the team that taught the class, who can pass it on to us. We keep the amount you paid and the date for our records, and we keep a note that an address asked not to be emailed, so we never write to it again.
- Details we erase can stay in our backups for up to 30 days, and our payment company keeps its own records under its own rules.
Who to ask
- About the class itself: reply to any email about your booking. It goes to the host.
- About a payment, a refund, your details or these terms: write to the host, who can pass it on to us.
Changes to these terms
We may change these terms. The terms in force when you book are the ones that apply to your booking.
