Teach a class

Host a class on BBQOps

Put your class on the BBQOps website. We run the sign-ups and take the payments. You teach.

How it works

Four steps, start to finish.

  1. Make the class

In the team app, open Classes and write the title, pick the dates and times, set the seats and the price, and say what students should bring. To teach the same class again, copy it to more dates in a few taps.

  2. Set up how you get paid

For a paid class, your Pitmaster sets up payouts once, on a page Stripe hosts. Name, tax details and bank go on Stripe’s page, never ours. A free class needs none of this.

  3. Publish it

Your class goes on this website with its own page. We may look at your first class before it goes live; after that, your classes go live on their own.

  4. Students book, you teach

Students book and pay here. They get the details and a private link. You see who has booked, can message the class and mark who came, and reminders go out by themselves. Stripe sends your share to your bank.

What your team earns

BBQOps keeps 10% of each paid seat.

Here is what a team is paid on a few seat prices. Stripe’s card fee is an estimate; the real one is on your payout statement.

A $40 seat

Your team receives
$36
BBQOps keeps
$4
Card fee, about
$1.46paid out of what BBQOps keeps

A $75 seat

Your team receives
$67.50
BBQOps keeps
$7.50
Card fee, about
$2.48paid out of what BBQOps keeps

A $150 seat

Your team receives
$135
BBQOps keeps
$15
Card fee, about
$4.65paid out of what BBQOps keeps

The card fee comes out of what BBQOps keeps, so it never comes out of your share.

For teams that teach

Your first year of BBQOps is free.

Teach through BBQOps and your team’s first year on the team plan costs nothing. It starts the day your first class goes live on this website, and a team gets it once.

What a host needs

Not much.

  • A BBQOps team. The Pitmaster or an Admin makes the classes; only the Pitmaster sets up payouts.
  • A place to teach, and the permits and insurance that place and your food need. You confirm you have them.
  • For a paid class, payouts set up on Stripe’s page. A free class needs nothing.
  • Students are 18 or older unless you choose another age. Classes cannot sell alcohol through this website.

Questions

The short answers.

What does it cost to host a class?

Nothing up front. BBQOps keeps 10% of each paid seat. The card fee comes out of what BBQOps keeps, so it never comes out of your share. A free class costs you nothing.

When does my team get paid?

As each student pays. Stripe sends your share to your team’s bank on its own schedule, and you can see what is coming in the payout page Stripe gives you.

Do I need a Stripe account?

For a paid class, your Pitmaster sets up payouts once, on a page Stripe hosts. BBQOps never sees a bank number or a Social Security number. A free class needs nothing.

What if a student cancels?

You pick one of three refund rules for each class. This is the wording students see:

  • Flexible. Cancel 7 or more days before the first session for a full refund. Closer than that, no refund unless the host agrees.
  • Moderate. Cancel 3 or more days before the first session for a full refund. Closer than that, no refund unless the host agrees.
  • No refunds. No refund if you cancel, unless the host agrees. If the host cancels or moves the class, you are always refunded in full.

If you cancel the class, every student is refunded in full automatically.

Do students need an account?

No. A student gives their name, email and phone, and gets a private link to their booking. You see everyone who booked in the team app.

How many students can come?

You choose the seats, up to 200 a class. One booking can hold up to 10 seats, and 6 when the class is paid. A paid seat costs at least $10.

Can I teach a free class?

Yes. Students book it the same way and nothing is charged.
